Kysa HarteFeb 20, 20201 min read York Student’s Reaction to Michael Bloomberg Running For President The Wall Street Journal wrote an article about former New York City mayor, Michael Bloomberg, discussing some of the negative things he was involved in while a mayor. On the 24th of November, 2019, Bloomberg, announced his candidacy for President of the United States of America, which was a while after the other Democratic candidates announced that they were running. One thing Bloomberg is famous for is implementing the ‘stop, question and frisk’ tactic which targeted minorities. His candidacy announcement caused many of his shortcomings to resurface and civilians are now questioning whether he will be best for the job. Sebastieon Semper, 18, undeclared major at York College, and resident of Rosedale, Queens, has no problem with Bloomberg running for President nor does it bother him that tonight, the 19th of February 2019, Bloomberg will be joining the other candidates in the Democratic Presidential Debate, despite not being a participant in the previous debates.Photo Credit: Kysa Harte Semper said, “Whenever there is someone in power, people will always bring up the negative things in their lives. I don’t know him but from the positive things I’ve heard about him doing in New York City, I just put up with him.” Semper also said, “The presidential race, to me, is a popularity contest. As long as [the next president] is not Donald Trump, then I’ll be satisfied. Trump was a mistake and America’s had its fair mistakes of presidents, so as long as it’s not him [Donald Trump], I’ll be fine.”Photo Credit: Kysa HarteAlthough Semper sees no wrong in Bloomberg’s actions, he does not believe that Bloomberg will win the presidential race against Donald Trump.
